How Much Better Is Apple's Best iPhone?

Apple’s iPhone 13 Pro Max offers improved cameras and longer battery life, but is it worth upgrading from the already great iPhone 12 Pro Max?

Apple announced its new iPhone 13 Pro Max at its September 2021 event, a device that looks remarkably similar to the previous iPhone 12 Pro Max and is even available for the same starting price as last year. The value of these beautiful smartphones is more than just superficial, of course, and they have powerful processors and cameras that capture moments with remarkable accuracy. For anyone considering a purchase, the question arises whether it is worth buying the latest model with the most advanced technology or saving a little with the previous version?

Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro Max brought a major design change, changing the shape of the flagship iPhone with an eye-catching, flat-edged design that was unique at the time. The look is now being copied by competitors like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3, an endorsement of the stunning design. The iPhone 12 Pro Max has broken new ground as Apple’s largest iPhone of all time with its 6.7-inch OLED screen, which is protected by super-hard Ceramic Shield glass. While every iPhone 12 shares the same design and screen technology, Apple’s largest phone also features a unique image sensor that is larger than its sibling and offers dramatically better low-light performance.

Apple’s newest and best model, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, comes with several major upgrades that improve the already incredible cameras and screen on the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The most obvious change during the first inspection will be the ProMotion display technology, which enables adaptive refresh rates of up to 120 Hertz. That means scrolling is super fluid, video games are more responsive, and animations are more fluid. In typical operation, the screen is 25 percent brighter at 1,000 nits. That makes a noticeable difference outdoors, and is especially helpful on a display the size of the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max. The most impressive updates, however, are related to the cameras. With up to 92 percent better low-light quality, the ultra-wide-angle lens doesn’t come with the noise and softness that reduced the value of this camera in the previous version. The telephoto goes even further with a triple optical zoom. The main camera benefits from more light in two ways, both larger 1.9 micron pixels and a wider aperture of f / 1.5. This offers up to 2.2 times better low-light performance than the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which is incredible.

Processor, battery, memory & price

The iPhone 13 Pro Max comes with a faster A15 processor, though Apple wasn’t entirely clear about how much better it was. The battery life has also improved and, according to Apple tests, lasts up to eight hours longer than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. That means longer video recordings when you use the new cinematic options, e.g. B. the ability to automatically move the focus to give any video a dramatic effect. The storage capacity is 1TB, double the maximum supply with the iPhone 12 Pro Max. This larger capacity option is useful when recording in ProRes as the video format can quickly consume storage space.

Overall, and considering that the iPhone 13 Pro Max outperforms the iPhone 12 Pro Max in several areas including the camera, screen, display, and storage, while the price tag is $ 1,099, this is an easy upgrade if it is is within budget. Apple made it out of the park with the iPhone 13 Pro Max and offers a fantastic smartphone at a great price.
