After 18 seasons, Mark Harmon officially retired from his lead role in the CBS issue NCIS.
“I’m not going back, Tim,” said Harmons Gibbs on the October 11 episode, signaling his departure. “I’m not going back home.”
The departure of Harmon shouldn’t shock fans as many media outlets, including Movieguide®, have been reporting on the speculation for more than a year.
But just because Harmon will no longer be a regular on the series doesn’t mean fans won’t see him again.
“As executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the show. Our North Star has always remained true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters are going. Regarding the future of Gibbs, as longtime fans of the show may have noticed over the years … never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out, ”said Steven D. Binder, NCIS Executive Producer / Showrunner.
In addition, Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment said, “Mark has always been part of the show, Mark will always be part of the show. As for its on-air appearances, we just have to see how it plays out in the future. “
Many fans posted on social media that they would not see the show after Harmon’s departure.
“I’ve been a long-time fan. But since Gibbs left, I’m not a fan,” one person posted on Instagram.
“Without Gibbs there is no show.
“If Gibbs leaves, we all go!” Someone else commented.
However, Harmon will remain a franchise producer and be involved in off-camera activities.
Movieguide® has recognized NCIS with multiple Movieguide® Award nominations, including the Season 17 finale, “The Arizona”.
