Serkis confirms that Spider-Man and Venom will “naturally” meet in the future, “Period taken … everyone wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man.”
Poison: Let there be slaughter Director Andy Serkis has confirmed that Spider-Man and Venom “Of course“Meet in the future. The much-anticipated sequel to 2018 Poison will be released in a few weeks and revolves around Tom Hardy’s character Eddie Brock, who is getting used to the life of the host of an alien symbiote and the challenges that come with it. In addition to Hardy, Woody Harrelson will play the serial killer Cletus Kasady, who also connects with an alien symbiote to become Carnage, Venom’s archenemy.
Both Poison Movies take place in Sony’s newly named “Sony Spider-Man Universe,” which is also the upcoming one Morbius Movie currently slated for 2022 as well Kraven the hunterwhich is planned for 2023. The Sony Spider-Man universe is currently made up of films based on Spider-Man villains without including the Spider-Man films themselves. This is because Sony is currently sharing the character of Spider-Man with Disney after reaching an agreement back in 2019 and luckily keeping him in the MCU. Since Sony’s announcement of this new cinematic universe, many fans have begun to wonder if this ultimately meant that Spider-Man could appear in some of these villain-centric films in the future.
Now it seems like Serkis has the answer the audience has been waiting for. Talk to IGN (via The direct), Serkis was asked about the likelihood of this crossover and whether Venom would ever meet Spider-Man, to which he answered frankly.of course it will happen. “See the full quote from Serkis below:
“Look, that’s the question everyone is talking about. They want to know if Venom will hit Spider-Man, but in person it will never happen. I’m just kidding, of course it will happen … But I think there is so much … Listen, it depends on when you want to go and also what the appetite is. If people want more Venom stories to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters in between. So, in a way, you could close the door by rushing over to him.“
The director then went on to discuss how “there could be some fantastic stories out there“Focused on the villains at the Ravencroft Institute, an institution for the criminally insane, as well as citing”also all other symbioses …“Serkis continued”But, point taken, yeah, everyone wants to see Venom fight Spider-Man“He did, however, express concern that he was in a hurry to incorporate Spider-Man into the story of Venom.”You’re going to sacrifice all of that stuff. “
Ultimately, it is clear that Serkis’ focus is mainly on the world-building of. lies Poison and focus on comic lore instead of just jumping the gun to incorporate Spider-Man. But that’s not to say that Serkis isn’t already more than aware of the fan excitement of seeing Venom and Spider-Man face to face in the future, and Hardy himself has voiced his desire for a possible crossover. Hoping that Serkis will redeem his claim that this crossover is certainly something to be expected in the future, the question now arises of how the two will meet and under what circumstances they could find fans. Until then, viewers can look forward to the latest part of Sony’s Spider-Man universe. Poison: Let there be slaughter to be released on October 1st.
